"Sit back, Turn it up, Hook up the mule, Cause the wagon is loaded!" This type of band has been an idea of Kevin Dugas and Steve Riley for over ten years now. The idea was there, but nothing was ever put together until the middle of 2008. When Kevin put this group of guys together, they knew that there was something special. So they recorded a live gig, and this recording is the product of that night in Breaux Bridge. The idea was to take the twin fiddles and powerful steel guitar sounds of Belton Richard and Aldus Roger, bring that sound back to life, and modernize that sound. Keeping the traditional sound of that era alive is the passion of this group. But with the modern technology of today, it's more like "1960s dance hall music on steroids!" The High Performance group consists of Kevin Dugas, Jamey Bearb, Steve Riley, Jason Bergeron, Richard Comeaux and Brazos Huval. Special guests include Nolan Dugas, Michael Dugas, Scott Ardoin, Vernon Bergeron and Paul "Bird" Delafose. Released in March 2009, 17 tracks, including:

01- Aces Rock "Belton's Theme Song"
02- Evangeline Special (Jamey Bearb)
03- I'd Like to Know (Jamey Bearb)
04- Please Don't Go (Jamey Bearb)
05- I'll Always Take Care of You (Jamey Bearb)
06- Lord, I Need Somebody Bad (Jamey Bearb)
07- Along the River (Jamey Bearb & Vernon Bergeron)
08- Went to the Dance (Steve Riley)
09- Me for You, You for Me (Steve Riley)
10- Another Place Another Time (Jamey Bearb)
11- Johnny Can't Dance
12- Broken Family Waltz (Nolan Dugas)
13- Married to One, in Love with Another (Nolan Dugas)
14- Musician's Paradise (Steve Riley & Jamey Bearb)
15- Triangle Club Special
16- Hard to Love Someone (Steve Riley)
17- Between Eunice and Opelousas

*High Performance racked up numerous awards at the 2010 Cajun French Music Association (CFMA) held on Friday, August 20th. Jamey Bearb took home Fiddler of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year; Steve Riley won Accordionist of the Year; LIVE FROM BREAUX BRIDGE won Best CD; and High Perfomance (as a group) won Band of the Year and the People's Choice Award!

Great Disc
Nice set on this CD. I've never been a big Steve Riley fan and this CD didn't convert me but it was nice to hear some modernized "classic" Cajun music as might have been heard in southwest Louisiana from the 60s to the 90s.

I was sufficiently impressed with the 35-second previews on the CDs page to shell out the bucks for this release and it sounds even better in full CD quality. I've performed with Nolan, Mike and Kevin Dugas and I absolutely love Nolan's "Je Suis Marié Avec Une" and needed a new copy of it other than an old cassette of him singing it with Nolan Cormier and the Cajun Hee Haws at Guidry's Friendly Lounge in Lewisburg, LA.

Vernon Bergeron - of Aldus Roger and Paul Daigle fame - makes an appearance on "Au Long De La Rivière" and turns in an even better performance of it than I remember at the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Church Point Buggy Festival.

This CD was cut live at a dance in Breaux Bridge and to me that's best kind of Cajun music. It's meant to be enjoyed live and in-person and this disc captures that essence entirely. Highly recommended and sure to provide that little slice of home to people like me who are currently residing outside of Acadiana.
