| A brief history...
Al Berard was born in 1960 in Grand Anse, Louisiana, a town so small it is not even on most maps, He began playing music at the age of eleven. His father trapped and crawfished and Al remembers as a young boy hearing his father sing traditional Cajun tunes to his cows with improvised words in French. Berard, himself, sings and plays the fiddle, guitar, and mandolin as well as composes new Cajun songs in a traditional style. Started out playing rock & roll guitar, he learned many of his Cajun tunes from recordings by legendary Cajun musicians Dennis McGee and Dewey Balfa, and took his first fiddle lessons from Hadley Castille.
He has performed with File and the Basin Brothers and released a CD titled "Allons A La Veille Chez Robert" with Robert LeBlanc and Mitch & Lisa Reed. In 2004, Al was given the Award of Excellence, which is to reward the absolute excellence of musicians at their craft. It is intended for the musician's musician, the one everyone tries to emulate.
